Effie Piliouni Albrecht's writing is predominantly creative non-fiction and is a deeply personal narrative about her life, experiences, and emotions exploring the themes of love and loss, death, rebirth, and being a part of two cultures. As a young woman, she explored poetry as a means of expression, but has moved into longer narratives over the years. As the president of Chewacla Writer's Guild, she is exploring more creative avenues and gaining valuable editorial skills.
Regeneration: Made in China: A Meditative Memoir, was published in 2013 as Albrecht's first book. Writing from her own experiences of losing a child and subsequently adopting two daughters from China, she shares both her personal loss as well as the immense sacrifice of the Chinese birthmothers. Her book explores the human ability to survive and give meaning and substance to the unjustifiable and irremissible workings of chance. Read more about her first book and purchase it online.
In the Summer of 2015, Albrecht published an essay, I, She, We, in Lee Magazine that dealt with living in two cultures.
Anticipated in spring 2016 is "Whispering Trees," a chap book collaboration between photographer Frank Uhlig and Albrecht, who writes the narrative and imaginative texts.
Later in 2016, Albrecht hopes the collaborative anthology from the Chewacla Writer's Guild will be published. She is serving as co-editor for the project, which currently is untitled.
